Parliamentary Elections
According to the new constitution we will hold elections for one parliamentarian per college this week. The elected parliamentarians will stay in office till February 2013 and chair the following committees: Academic Affairs (co-chair),Public Relations (co-chair), IT (sole chair) and External Relations (sole chair). If you are a 1st or a 2nd year, interested in chairing one of the committees and are staying in your current college of residence you may run for parliament now. Irrespective of moving to another college or not next year, anyone may run for parliament in September when the term of office will be one year.
Please upload your election statement as a one page DIN A4 word or pdf document by Wednesday May 9, 2012 23:59.

There will be no extension for the period as election speeches will be held by candidates in the serveries of their colleges on Thursday May 10, 2012. Please do not hesitate to contact Martin Freres m.freres@jacobs-university.de with any questions.
The limitation of candidacies is due to the college representation based in our constitution. In order to make college representation compatible with the new staggered electoral system the undergraduate student parliament added to the By-Laws on Election Procedure that: "Parliamentarians will have to stay within the college in which they were elected for the term of their office excluding June, July and August." This prevents that any one elected in college x moved to college y the next semester and, hence, college y would have more and college x less parliamentarians than appropriate. Because during this year's transition the Spring Elections are held after the college choice phase this limitation occurs. In a regular year Spring Elections would take place in February, hence, you would know whether you are elected or not, and college choice would only be limited for those who actually took office. Only during this year's transition your college choice limits your eligibility to run rather than your office limits your choice of college. During regular Spring Elections the term of office is also 1 year and not half a year as it is during this year's transition phase.
